Crystal Coast Cancer Rehab Center

Branded sweat towels are an asset for a cancer rehab program
Crystal Coast Cancer Rehab Center is a nonprofit founded in 2018. Its mission is simple: battle cancer one person at a time. “Our goal is to utilize exercise and nutrition to help cancer survivors as they go through treatment,” said Jayme Limbaugh, founder. “We want to keep their body healthy so they have the best opportunity to fight back.”
Limbaugh and her team work to cultivate an environment where individuals don’t just survive, they thrive. When somebody within about a two-hour drive of the center in Morehead City, North Carolina, is diagnosed with cancer, they can be referred by an oncologist to enroll in the Crystal Coast program.
The organization started after Limbaugh saw the need in the community and knew she had the ability to make a difference. “In our area, the No. 1 disease is cancer. Everyone has someone in their life who has been touched by cancer,” she said. “So I thought, why can’t we utilize these things that I know can help people diagnosed with cancer physically and mentally?”
Small team, big impact
Crystal Coast has what Limbaugh called a “small-but-mighty team.” Despite just three employees—Limbaugh, who is a clinical physiologist and dietician, along with two other exercise physiologists—saw nearly 90 people through the program in 2024.
The yearlong program begins at the time of diagnosis and includes four phases designed to maintain muscle strength, flexibility and balance. Those enrolled work one on one with an exercise physiologist two to three times a week. Those enrolled are usually in the 30-50 age range, but Crystal Coast has worked with 22-year-olds and others into their 80s.
Branded sweat towels are practical and promotional
A one by one grant provided sweat towels? Crystal Coast team gives to its program participants. Because the center is frequented by people in various stages of cancer treatment and recovery, close attention is paid to cleanliness and germ control. Each person receives a branded sweat towel to bring with them for each session.
“People are really proud to come through this program,” she said. “They’re free to, as we say, take their hair down, take their wigs off, take their prosthetics off. They can be very vulnerable in this space and feel like it’s a cool club to be a part of and people don’t grade or judge you. Having something that represents that feeling in something as simple as a towel is really fantastic.”
For an organization where the budget is always top of mind, the uplift of a one by one grant can be a difference-maker. “Fundraising is a perpetual difficulty,” Limbaugh said. “It’s a full-time job you’re cramming into your full-time job. When there are opportunities like this where it’s so straight-forward, it’s very nice and it’s refreshing. But also, it’s extremely impactful.”
